"As a former candidate for local office I know how important the campaign fundamentals are. More importantly, I know how vital a support system is. This training program provides both."
-Rachel Michelin, CA Women Lead Executive Director/CEO, former County Supervisor candidate.
Testimonials from If Not You, Then Who? graduates:
"For the past few weeks I felt a sense of purpose and confidence that I haven't felt in some time. And as I start to think about the changes that I see in myself I can't help but contribute my new attitude and sense of renewal to the If Not You, Then Who? Leadership Training Series."
"Thank you for such commitment to women as leaders and for giving us such practical tools for our future. I feel so much more informed and prepared on how to run for office."
"This program is far more effective at preparing me to run for office than previous campaign trainings I've done."
This six-week training is dedicated to giving YOU, the future candidate, the skills and tools you need to run and win. The
program's focus is to:
ENGAGE by helping YOU realize YOUR leadership potential;
EMPOWER by providing the tools and skills YOU need to run and WIN;
ELECT more women to local office who will become part of the pipeline to motivate more women into leadership throughout California.
PROGRAM GOALS
This program will increase the number and diversity of women leaders at the grassroots level, foster relationships among women from different backgrounds and ideologies, increase the involvement of women in their communities, and encourage women to realize their responsibility to be involved in the community decision-making process.
SESSION TOPICS
These two-hour sessions hosted by women with extensive campaign experience will cover the following topics:
Session #1 - Welcome Reception and Training Overview
Welcome reception to meet other training participants. Other invited guests include the California Women Lead State Board of Directors, members of the local California Women Lead Chapter board, guest faculty and other special guests.
Session #2 - Creating the Perfect Campaign Plan
Running for public office is a major decision that will change your life. The stakes are high, the campaign can be rough, and money – or lack of it – is always an issue. Find out how to determine what office you want to run for, what the next steps are in the process and what resources are out there to help you win.
Session #3 - Rules of the Road: Complying with Campaign Law
Complying with complex campaign reporting prohibitions and requirements under federal, state and local jurisdictions can often be a challenge. In this session, you'll learn the rules of the road to ensure that you, your campaign and, once elected, your office are in compliance with reporting procedures.
Session #4 - How to Effectively Fundraise
at the Local Level
Whatever the office you are running for, your campaign must have a strategy for raising money. This session will review the basic steps involved in raising money locally for your political campaign, including how to identify and motivate likely donors, build coalitions, and identify the most effective vehicles for delivering your campaign message. This session will also touch on Political Action Committees (PAC's).
Session #5 - Developing and Delivering Your Message
When you are running for office, your message says a lot about who you are and what you believe. This session will walk you through the steps to develop a message that empowers both you and those you are trying to influence. Also included are tips on how to use social marketing sites (Facebook, Twitter, etc.) to reach the greatest number of supporters as possible.
Session #6 - Graduation Celebration with Elected Women Leaders
California Women Lead wants to celebrate your success. We will end the six week program with a graduation where each woman who completes the training will receive a special certificate, pin and recognition from leaders in their community on their success and commitment to being a leader.
