Message from the Inland Empire Chapter President
Welcome to the Inland Empire Chapter of CA Women Lead! My name is
Patricia Lock-Dawson and I am currently serving as President of the
relatively new Inland Empire Chapter, just 8 months old as of March,
2010. The Inland Empire Chapter covers most of Riverside and San Bernardino
Counties; activities are held in cities in both counties.
The Inland Empire is one of the fastest growing areas in the country with attendant social and political challenges. Women are stepping up to bring their unique perspective and problem solving skills into the political arena to help address these problems. The League of California Cities estimates that approximately 40% of elected positions in Riverside County are held by women. The Inland Empire chapter seeks to assist more women in achieving this goal by (1) organizing trainings and workshops, (2) establishing a mentoring program, (3) holding networking mixers and dinners, and (4) connecting women with political resources for conducting their own campaigns.
We have a very committed and qualified Board of Directors whose passion
is to assist women in their goals of achieving leadership positions
within the region. Meet the CA Women Lead Inland Empire Chapter Board:
Vice-President: Pamela Loscutoff
Treasurer: Becky Whatley
Members at Large: Eileen Fry-Bowers, Ennette Morton, Mary Tenorio

Susan Peppler, Chief Deputy Cabinet Secretary for Gov. Schwarzenegger guest speaker at Inland Empire chapter mixer on August 26
On August 26, the Inland Empire Chapter held a networking mixer at Mu Restaurant in Redlands. The guest of honor and keynote speaker was Susan Peppler, Chief Deputy Cabinet Secretary for Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. Ms. Peppler has had a long career of government and elected service. She is a former Presidential appointee, having served in the Bush administration and is also former Mayor of the City of Redlands. The crowd of 20-30 women was encouraged by Ms. Peppler’s personal journey from a stay-at-mom with a home daycare center and passionate volunteer to local elected office to high level federal and state advisor. Pam Loscutoff, Vice President of the Inland Empire Chapter, hosted the event. She used the event to announce the California Women’s State Appointment Project and encouraged participants to apply.

Inland Empire Chapter Holds Wine Mixer with Guest Speaker Mayor Karen Spiegel, City of Corona
On Thursday, February 11, 2010 the newly formed Inland Empire Chapter of CA Women Lead held its first networking event at the Winery at Canyon Crest Towne Center in Riverside. The networking event was attended by approximately forty members and guests. The guest speaker was the Honorable Karen Spiegel, the Mayor of Corona. Mayor Spiegel spoke on the challenges of running and holding office, while raising a family of five children. Mayor Spiegel applauded her husband for being one of her most enthusiastic supporters. The event provided an opportunity for women candidates to connect with other women, share their stories and gain support. Several candidates for various offices were in attendance.
