Opinion: Women are the Powerhouse in California 2010
September 16, 2010
As campaign season gets into high gear there is a lot of emphasis on women - a woman on the top of the GOP ticket, two women in a VERY competitive
race for the United States Senate and a number of women running in down ticket races. 2010 has the potential to be a BIG year for women in California
politics. That is why the California Women's State Appointments Project (CWSAP) is so important. Women should have a role and a voice in public
policy.

Last August the California Women's State Appointment Project (CWSAP) launched a new program that encourages and recruits potential women appointees
for the new gubernatorial administration. California Women Lead, the National Women's Political Caucus-California, Leadership California, the

Statement from Jerry Brown, Attorney General of California and Candidate for Governor
"I am pleased to support the nonpartisan work and goals of the California Women's State Appointments Project, an initiative designed to
increase the diversity and participation by women in appointed leadership positions in California.
My record on supporting women in leadership throughout my career is strong. As Governor, I appointed women to nearly a third of all judicial
and executive offices, far exceeding any of my predecessors. It is that same spirit of inclusion and diversity that I will bring to the office
of Governor if I am elected on November 2.
California is facing a number of serious challenges and we need all Californians to step up and serve. I applaud the work that CWSAP is doing
to reach out to and encourage women to be public servants and I join them in their commitment to women's leadership. Visit their website at www.cawomenlead.org/cwap to find out more information about the project."
"The CWSAP applauds Brown's support and dedication to ensure we have a rich, diverse pool of women from all corners of the state included
in next year's appointment process, " said Rachel Michelin, Executive Director/CEO for California Women Lead. "Governor Brown has always
been a staunch supporter of women in his past administrations and we hope this project will help his administration appoint even more women to
leadership provisions throughout the state."
