California Women Lead is proud to partner with companies who salute the women and men who served and continue to serve this great country. In honor of our veterans, we are sharing the wonderful work our statewide partner Comcast NBCUniversal has been doing for the veteran community. Take a look:
Every year, Comcast NBCUniversal finds new ways to support the military community. The following includes what has been accomplished by the company in 2018.
Expanded eligibility for Internet Essentials program to include low-income veterans who live in the Comcast NBCUniversal service area. Comcast NBCUniversal estimates that there are about 1 million low-income veterans who will now qualify for Internet Essentials. This expansion, which includes partnerships with the Elizabeth Dole Foundation and the PsychArmor Institute, has taken Comcast NBCUniversal to cities across the country to unveil a network of computer labs that will allow local veteran-serving organizations to deliver digital literacy training materials tailored to the needs of the veteran community. Earlier this month Comcast NBCUniversal announced it will hire thousands of veterans, military spouses, and National Guard and Reserve members, bringing the company's total to 21,000 military hires by the end of 2021. Comcast NBCUniversal's previous commitment, made in 2015, was to hire 10,000 military community members by the end of 2017, which was exceeded. Thisvideo, spotlighting Ken Collier and Comcast NBCUniversal's Houston team, is a powerful reminder of the leadership and selflessness veterans bring to the company, and one of the many reasons Comcast NBCUniversal is excited about this new hiring goal.
