Our outgoing CEO Rachel Michelin spoke with California Forward about the need to keep the momentum up with women running for office, the importance of having balanced points of view in government and the challenges we still need to overcome at home. She was interviewed alongside Controller Betty Yee, who previously served on CA Women Lead's Board of Directors.
“One of the reasons why we saw more women getting elected, in my opinion in this cycle, is you had more women running. And it becomes a numbers game. The more women you have on the ballot, the more opportunity you have to elect a woman. Although women gained in the legislature, they still hold less than 30 percent of California’s legislative seats. And the gains were mostly made by one party….”
