A Message From The Executive Director

Rachel Michelin
December 2016

It is hard to believe we are at the end of 2016!  This was certainly a year of up and downs for women in politics both in California and nationally.  We saw the nomination of the first woman for President of the United States from a major political party and then witnessed the number of women serving in elected office in California decrease.  As frustrating as the election cycle may have been, I am choosing to look at it as an opportunity for women to find their different paths for leadership – personally, professionally and politically and the role California Women Lead will have in helping them find it.  I am excited about the new program California Women Lead is offering in 2017 – our LEADership Academy.  I hope you will take a moment and visit the LEADership Academy section of our website where you can find more information about the program, download the session topics and apply for the program.  To me, putting frustration into action is the best way to deal with obstacles in your path.  Instead of feeling frustrated by the November election, I hope you will join California Women Lead as we work at finding solutions and collectively work together to empower all of California’s women leaders to be successful politically, professionally and personally.

I want to thank you for your support of California Women Lead and our mission.  While at times politics can be maddening, I know we are making a difference and will continue to work with like-minded leaders as we continue to help women as they navigate California’s political landscape.

As a mom of two girls, this is not just about what happens each election cycle, the work we do is about empowering the next generation of female leaders and hopefully recruiting the next female Governor of California or President of the United States.  I know, if we work together, in a positive environment, focused on women’s leadership, our hard work will pay off.

In 2017, I am choosing to focus on the silver lining in what some would call a dark cloud after the 2016 election.  I am choosing to see the difference we, as women leaders, can make and I hope you will join us.  If you are a member of California Women Lead, thank you.  If you are not a member, I hope you will join us in 2017 to empower more women to be leaders in the state.

Here is to finishing 2016 strong and focusing on an even better 2017 – I look forward to working with you to make a difference!
